Emergency escape breathing device (EEBD)

The YB15 EEBD is an escape breathing apparatus which provides a constant supply of air for rapid escape from hazardous industrial and marine environments. The EEBD is available in durations of 15 minutes in high visibility PVC or black anti-static polyurethane materials.

The YIBEI apparatus consists of a cylinder with integrated cylinder valve and reducer, supply hose to constant flow hood and stowage bag. The YB15 EEBD is activated upon opening the bag whereby a pin which is attached to the bag via a strap is released.

This emergency escape breathing device is designed to allow the user to focus on escape when it is donned. It is a selft-contained open-circuit compressed air breathing apparatus with a hood for escape. The air flow is activated by pulling the quick start tab which simultaneously opens the zipper on the carrying bag. The user can access the hood in short time.

The integrity of the EEBD unit is verified by an anti-tamper tag. The gauge of cylinder contents can be easily read from the outside of the EEBD. Once a unit for training is needed, this is quite easy to re-use and a ideal solution.

This Yibei EEBD comprise of a cylinder with breathing air which can be conveniently recharged with the simple charging system. The seamless hood has a flexible neck seal to offer an effective air-tightness and easy to don and also comfortable to wear. This Yibei EEBD is application of: Directive 2014/90/EU of 23 July 2014 on marine equipment (MED). This Certificate is issued by DNV SE based on the notification of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany. It is found to comply with the requirements in the following Regulations/Standards: Regulation (EU) 2020/1170, item No. MED/3.41. SOLAS 74 as amended, Regulation II-2/13, FSS Code 3 and IMO MSC/Circ. 849.

Application

EEBD is a self-contained compressed air apparatus for escape from a contaminated environment. It consists of a compressed air cylinder with air capacity of 600 litres (15 minutes duration). Within accommodation areas all ships are to carry at least two EEBD. The quantity of EEBD within machinery spaces is dependant on the layout of the space and the number of persons normally working there.

It is used for emergency escape from any confined spaces. This YIBEI EEBD is approved as an emergency escape breating device in accordance with SOLAS II-2 Reg.13.3.4 and FSS Code Ch.3.2.2. to provide personnel breathing protection during escape from a compartment that has hazardous atmosphere. Not to be used for fighting fires or when entering oxygen deficient tanks or voids, or worn by fire-fighters.

How to use EEBD correctly?

What are the components of EEBD?

This breathing device comprises hood with visor, inner mask and neck sealing, breathing hose, cylinder valve combined generator and pressure gauge, compressed air cylinder and carrying bag.

How does an Emergency Escape Breathing Device work?

When properly used, the YB15 EEBD provides emergency respiratory protection for escape from atmospheres which contain irritating or toxic contaminants or are oxygen deficient. It delivers a constant flow of breathable air to the wearer for 15 min.

The airflow is supplied to the hood from the compressed air cylinder via the regulator and breathing hose. The respirator may be worn in a ready position by the user or stored at the point of anticipated use.

When opened, the YB15 EEBD is automatically activated and begins feeding a continuous supply of breathing air. The YB15 EEBD gives the wearer the precious additional time needed to exit the area safely. If the air supply is almost exhausted, a warning whistle sounds, which means the user knows he must now find a safe environment as quickly as possible.

10 years lifetime but hydrostatic test of cylinder is demanded for 5 years as per national rules. No mandatory service required on the hood, mask and breathing hose until year 10. Anyway annual inspection is recommended.

What is the difference between an EEBD and a filtering escape device?

Filtering escape hoods are closed-head hoods with an integrated filter that prevents the ingress of toxic substances in the event of e.g. fires and explosions. However, in contrast to EEBD, an escape hood does not protect against oxygen deficiency in the ambient air.

Filter devices are only made up of the filter and a mouthpiece. Filtering escape hood and devices are affordable, easy-to-use solutions if the type, properties and composition of the possible contaminant is known. They are ready to use straight from the packaging and suitable even for inexperienced users.

How do I maintain the EEBD?

(1) The device should be placed in a dry, clear, easy-to-access place where there is no

direct sunshine;

(2) The device should not come close to any grease or other corrosive liquid;

(3) The cylinder should do pressure test once every three or five years in manufacturer or government authority and be qualified before use;

(4) The device should avoid heavy pressing, high-temperature baking, freezing and sun

exposure;

(5)Train relevant personnel before using the device;

(6) Once there is failure or damaged parts, repair them in manufacturer or its authorized

agencies;

(7) No filling oxygen to the cylinder to avoid accidents;

(8) Charge the cylinder to 210 bar first and after cooling, re-inflate to 210 bar to ensure duration lifetime.

How will the breathing air be extracted for respiratory protection?

Using compressors (mobile or stationary), external air is compressed for the direct

compressed-air supply or to fill the compressed-air cylinder. Separators and filters in

the compressor ensure that the air is cleaned.

How can I guarantee the quality of breathing air in EEBD?

Limit values for impurities in breathing air in accordance with EN 12021:

– Lubricants (droplets or mist): 0.5 mg/m3

– Carbon dioxide content: (500 ppm)

– Carbon monoxide content: 15 ppm

– Water content:

50 mg/m3 (at a nominal pressure of 40 to 200 bar) or

35 mg/m3 (at a nominal pressure of more than 200 bar)
